I've seen and read the posts regarding the dual boot issues/questions with
vista. I'm now looking to carry this one step further and ask if I can
partition a section of my single hard drive on my laptop (I've got the space
available) and then install xp to the new partition. I'm fed up with the
issues of blaming MS vs Sony over the drivers that won't allow recognition
of my old and new Sony digital cameras. I just want to know if I create a
new partition, is there a way to install xp to the new partition or will
vista deny me the option to install an older os on the new partition?

Don, have a very serious read of the above link. It includes where you have
Vista pre-installed.

Thanks Mick, the article is a great step-by-step and exactly what I was
looking for... and just couldn't come across by my searches. I'm comfortable
with the process and have saved it for print out.

You can do it, but when you go about installing XP on the dedicated
partition, it will kill Vista's boot loader. You can repair the Vista
installation by booting off the Vista DVD and go into the Windows Recovery
Environment and choose Repair.

I'll see your dual booting and raise you another 143 OSs.
