Post subject: view all folders/files
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>security (more info?)
I turned off User Account Control but in Explorer I still can't open
Documents and Settings and a number of other folders.

How can I configure Vista so that I can view any folder/file I want , as I
could in XP ?

Because they are not really folders....
In Vista, "Documents and Settings" is not a folder.
Vista uses a different file structure than XP does/did. Those familiar
folder names you may be used to, like "My Documents", "Documents &
Settings", etc.
are not folders in Vista. They are junction points, and are used for legacy
programs which were written to utilize the XP file structure. They will
redirect the programs to use the equivalent Vista folders.
If you keep the protected operating system files hidden, you won't see them.

In Vista......
Documents & Settings -> \Users
My Documents -> \Users\youraccount\Documents
My Music -> \Users\youraccount\Music
Application Data -> \Users\youraccount\AppData
etc.

I can't open C:\Users\<me>\AppData\Local\Temporary Internet Files\

My goal is to view the temporary internet files .. how can I do that ?

That is a JUNCTION point, not a folder. It is there for older
programs to help them find the real folder.

I've relocated my TIF file to another drive. To find where yours is,
go into IE TOOLS, INTERNET OPTIONS, Bwrowing History SETTINGS.

That's another junction point. The temporary internet files are located in
C:\Users\(youraccount)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet
Files\

"\AppData" is normally hidden
"\Temporary Internet Files" is normally a hidden protected Operating System
file

You'll have to remove the checkmark (if they're hidden) in Windows Explorer:
Organize - Folder & Search Options - View
