Post subject: screen refreshs on all view operatrion in PRO-E

I have recently acquired a computer with the windows vista home edition,
trying to use the student edition of PRO-E 2001,any time I try a view
operation like panning, zooming etc. I get a screen refresh inside the
program, very time consuming. I never experienced this using the program on
windows XP with an older less powerful system. I'm currently running on a
1.86 GHZ system with 2 gigabytes of ram, using nvidia geforce 7300 video card
w 256 onboard ram set at 1280x1024 @60HZ screen resolution. nvidia board uses
the windows vista driver. Any help with a fix for this would be appreciated.

Have you checked with the PRO-E tech support people to see if their
program is compatible with Vista? It might not be or there might be a
newer version that is, a patch, or a workaround. The program mftr. is
the one who will know this.

Also, make sure you have the latest video drivers for your computer.
Here is general driver information:

Get drivers from:

1. The device mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM
computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the drivers.

To find out what hardware is in your computer:

1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer.
2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific
model machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers
anyway)
3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc
Advisor. The older Aida32 is good for this, too although it might not
work on Vista.

sorry about the repost
I went to the nvidia video driver site. For vista they
instructed me to use the windows driver that vista
chose. I have contacted the program maker of the software.
still wating for a response.
The question is why xp would run the software fine
and vista will not?

There are many, many reasons why a program will run in one operating
system and not in a completely different one. This is not unique to
Vista. Vista is a completely different operating system from XP. Some
older programs will work with no problem, other older programs may need
to run in emulation (look at "run older programs" in Vista's Help), and
some older programs will not run at all. The success of running a
program outside of its native operating system is completely dependent
on how that older program was written.

Therefore, when you have difficulties with a program under a certain
operating system, your first step is always to check with the program
mftr. by 1) looking on their website for support issues; 2) looking on
their website to see if they have any user forums/newsgroups; 3)
contacting their tech support by phone or email.

This is a desktop, right?

By using the driver that Vista chose, do you mean the drivers on the Vista
installation DVD? Vista has no way to know that newer drivers are available.
Unless you mean via Windows Update, and that would include only drivers that
nVidia has released to Microsoft for distribution that way.

nVidia's drivers have gone through many, many updates since the drivers that
were included on the DVD. Download and install the latest nVidia drivers --
read and follow the installation directions carefully.
