I need to move a directory and change all the corresponding links to the
directory and its sub directories and files.

How can I do that

If you could do that, it would be the system-maintainer's Holy Grail.

Basically impossible since there are so many places that a reference to the
directory could be stored, in shortcuts, in the registry, in .ini files,
maybe even in an SQL database.

The solution lies in avoiding this situation, and on networks it's one of
the most powerful arguments for using centrally-determined mapped drives
instead of allowing people to create UNC shortcuts to network resources.

I see your points. I am not dealing with unc links

However, the I am in the process of migrating for business change reason,
the data need to be moved. Fortunately, no sql, program involved - they are
just excel, html, word documents and text.

When you have finished doing this by hand, then start storing your
documents in Lotus Domino, it handles situations like this with no efforts.
