cant log on to windows messanger

I am at my wit's endd trying to delete the subject program. I did a search and found the file extension used but was concerned deleting the files would not delete the .exe file. Any help would be much appreciated. I discovered if I leave one running it attaches to Yahoo messenger but the othe one will not allow MS Instant Messenger (Live Messenger) to run.
