Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>customize (more info?)

Hi - many months ago I got into Windows XP and changed a setting in it that I
would like to get back. If I am in my own account I can't see some of the
buttons you can click to go places or other things such as that. In order to
see everything properly in websites I have to use my husband's account. Does
anyone out there know what I did and how to change it back?? Thanks

A couple of thoughts, but I suspect neither are the answer:

You might have turned off pictures (images). If so, though, you'll not
see _any_ pictures; your use of the word "some" in the subject suggests
that you can see some pictures in web pages, in which case this isn't
the answer.

You might have turned off some scripting: It wouldn't surprise me if
some websites are now using Javascript even for buttons.

Oh, a long-shot: I don't know if a lot of sites use common third-party
image sources for some common buttons, and you've somehow blocked a
common such site; seems unlikely though.

Hopefully, someone will come along with a more likely solution than any
of the above. It would be I think helpful if you could give us the URL
of a web page in which you can see some things but not others, and you
tell us which things you can and can't see (or at least one thing you
can and one you can't) on it. Please pick a simple page if possible (-:

All's well that ends.

Barb, open IE and go to Tools>Internet Options>Under Security Tab set each
zone for Default. Under Advanced Tab Scroll down a check boxes that are
next to a missing feature
such as Show pictures. If you are interested in adding features go to
View>Toolbars. Check which one you want.

You might have enabled the "high contrast" setting, intended for people
with vision problems. Check:

Control Panel | Accessory Options | Display | Use High Contrast

If that setting is enabled, turn it off.
