My problem was resolved simply by. going to "Tools" then "Accounts" then
double click on the account in question. Click on "Advanced" and right under
"Outgoing Mail (SMTP)" where it says "This server requires a secure
connection" make sure that box isn't checked. I have Vista and this fixed my
problem. I don't know if it matters but I use Road Runner (Time Warner). Hope
this helps.

Do you get an error message when you try to send? If so, right-click
on it, copy, and paste it into a reply here.

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was 'Pfeifersec@msn.com'. Subject 'new email',

When you got that error message, was it on a laptop, away from home?
If so, your problem is a port 25 block by whoever is providing your
Internet connectivity at that moment. The only way around that is to
use SMTP on a port other than 25.

Mail.insuremyauto.com is an alias for mail.cybersearch-us.com.
Typically, web-hosting companies like cybersearch-us.com do not
offer alternate SMTP ports. Who is your home ISP?

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'trial', Account: 'pop.bluetie.com', Server:
'smtp.bluetie.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error:
10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

What other ports could I try?
Many thanks Fiona

The most common reason for this problem is a non-compatible
antivirus program. Both Norton and McAfee antivirus are incompatible
with Windows Mail, and they would need to be uninstalled. Replace
with a compatible antivirus like the free version of Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

After you do the above, if you still get the same error message,
let me know if you were using a laptop away from home when you
got that error message.

BlueTie is a mail provider but not an ISP. Who is your ISP?

Hello,
I am very disappointed with this Windows Mail from Vista on this specific
issue... I have uninstalled Norton, installed Avast... check the port issue
that Brian did but still for almost 2 weeks now, I can send and receive email
from it... PLEASE help , I am getting impatient with this ... I have yahoo
mail trying to add in this account.
This is the error I am getting :

An unknown error has occurred.
Subject 'test', Account: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Server:
'smtp.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '421 Cannot connect
to SMTP server 69.147.95.94 (69.147.95.94:25), connect error 10060', Port:
25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 421, Error Number: 0x800CCC67

My laptop is at home, I have AT&T as service provider.

Thanks, Sunshine.

I guess you didn't get the word, but for quite some time now,
AT&T wants you to use different servers and settings:

Our ISP is westnet, I am on a laptop at home and yes I have tried turning off
the AV.

"Westnet" doesn't pin it down. There is a Westnet in Australia:
http://www.westnet.com.au
and one in New York: http://www.westnet.com

I'm going to guess that your ISP is the latter. If so, In
Windows Mail go to Tools, Accounts, select the pop.bluetie.com
account, Properties, Servers. Change smtp.bluetie.com to
mail.westnet.com. Click OK, and try sending.

Incidentally, disabling McAfee or Norton AV is not sufficient.
It must be completely uninstalled. But that can wait until later
because the SMTP server change I gave you should fix your
immediate problem.

I started recently having the same problem as everyone else. I can receive,
but not send, e-mails. My IP is charter communications. When I go through
charter mail I can send e-mails with no problem. I can also send e-mails
through a separate e-mail account with Yahoo. So I don't think the problem
is with my computer (Acer) or with charter. But the error message I get is
"An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'Re: Monday, August 6' Account:
'POP.charter.net', Server: SMTP, Server Response: '421 Service not available,
Port 25, Secure (SSL): No, Server Error: 421, Error Number 0x800CCC67"
So before I do anything more (like uninstalling Norton) does anyone have any
suggestions for what might correct this specific problem? Thank you.

First of all, everyone is not having the same problem.
In fact, very few get Server Error 421.

Are you using a laptop away from home when you get that error?

If not, the only logical culprit is Norton antivirus. Uninstall it, and
replace with a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Gary,
Thanks for the info. No, I am not using a laptop. It is a desktop at my
home. Before I uninstall Norton, should I contact my IP about changing the
Port 25 or is that possible? As you can tell, I'm not really that computer
savy. Thanks for your help.
