Hi there fellow Microsofters!

I am a part System Admin at a small office with no Windows domain (just
workgroup), and would like to carry out the following tasks on my co-workers'
Windows XP Pro computers (locally), while enabling them as administrators (so
they can install / uninstall software / maintain their PCs).

Here are the tasks I would like to carry out (remember, they have
Administrator accounts as well, but not via Safe Mode, and remember, there is
no domain):

Disable them from uninstalling certain programs.

Thanks!
Row

One way, and one way, only. Remove their administrative privileges.

One time is more than enough, "fellow Microsofter". You now have
posted this twice in this thread, and have another thread going on the
same subject.

Until you take away their administrative rights - they can undo whatever you
do in many ways and do whatever they desire without much effort at all.

See replies to your prior SAME post (the first one, not the second one
before this third one). Asking again every 3 minutes won't change the
answers.

If you reposted because of a bogus error message then stop using the
webnews-for-dummies interface to Usenet that Microsoft uses to pretend
they have these forums. Use a real NNTP client and connect it to your
NNTP provider (msnews.microsoft.com is free but only carries the
microsoft.public.* newsgroups).

Hmm, that seemed easy for a few seconds, but ... you can't do it and
keep everyone as an Admin. Could you make the Power Users, adjusted
accordingly, and then use Policies to keep them from
installing/uninstalling? I h aven't checked to be sure that'll work;
I'll leave that part to you.

IMO your post is too vague for a good response.

Regards,

Twayne`

As said an admin can in principle do anything, however that does of course
depend on the user's tech skills and whether they are prepared to risk
disciplinary action for doing something which is clearly a transgression of
company policies.

If you remove the uninstall entry in the registry (under
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall) this may satisfy
your needs.

My approach to this is to have a script check for the presence of the
software's main executable at logon. If it ain't there, then it's
automatically (and silently) reinstalled. This has the advantage of covering
your own forgetfulness (well, mine anyway) to put AV software onto new
computers, etc.
