in hopes I could download the most recent releases -
well - I must have done something wrong because the
messengers now download, but then they do nothing - I
click them and they do not respond - BOTH of them are
like this and I am worried I really f'd up my machine - I
am running Windows XP, came with the HP pavillion I
have...
Can anyone help? Is there a place to check your windows
to ensure you have all the needed compnents? Sorta like
the update, but that just makes sure your windows is
complete?? Or, am I "barking up the wrong tree?"
HELP PLEASE!!! |

Yes! your system no longer recognises the stuff you are
downloading. You need to put the stuff you removed back
on the system first and then update your software! |

Greetings Christi,
Is it when you run the installers that nothing happens, or after they're actually installed
and you attempt to run them that nothing happens?

When I click on them to run them, nothing happens -
I think I fixed this, though. I dl'ed Messenger 4.7, and
for some reason, this worked and gave me 5.0? So, as
long as I have one, either MSN or Windows, I'm a happy
camper - HOWEVER - can you post your fix anyway? just in
case I mess up again?
Thanks!

Hi Christi,
There really isn't anything specific that would effect MSN Messenger (unlike Windows
Messenger issues), so I can't really post a fix for you, as there really isn't a clear reason
why this is happening (especially to MSN Messenger and not Windows Messenger).
After you've attempted to load MSN Messenger, press Ctrl-Alt-Del (or right-click on an unused
part of the taskbar and choose 'Task Manager'), then in the Task Manager, click the Processes
tab and see if msnmsgr.exe is there.
