possible corrupt user profile

i have this problem with downloading, it seems when i download anything, and
i mean anything, it downloads , then dissappears,gone as if it , well it's
not saving files anywhere. trust me. i have been talking to micrsoft support
and after 7 hours of doing whatever, all they could come up with was to
create another user profile. everything works fine, but that doesn't solve
the issue. anyone with any knowledge, would you help me fix this.

i forgot to mention that this issue is with vista ultimate
