I am trying to copy files to a CD-RW for back up purposes
on my Fujitso Amilo laptop.
I am using the standard process within XP and all seems
to go well and I am informed that the process is complete
but there are no files on the CD
Any ideas? I think there is something simple I am
overlooking

Format the disk first to make it a data disk, similar to your harddrive only it is removable.
Then use Windows Explorer, there you can "drag & drop" or "Copy and paste" the files from one drive to another.
If you have Roxio's Easy CD creator you can use that to format and create a data disk.
