Want to add your recorded AVCHD (.mts, .m2ts) video files to your portable devices as a pastime? Since almost all the pop mobile players like iPod, iPhone, BlackBerry, PSP, Apple TV, Gphone, etc. do not support MTS and M2TS files generated by AVCHD camcorders directly, you have to transfer them to these devices workable format previously before importing. This guide will focus on this point, and aims to help Mac users convert MTS and M2TS files to MP4, the general video format which is compatible with nearly all the above mentioned portable devices. The software we will use is called Pavtube MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac. Besides converting MTS/M2TS to MP4, it can also transfer the two formats to many other video and audio formats, such as 3GP, 3G2, AVI, MPG, MOV, MKV, AVI, FLV, VOB, SWF, MP3, FLAC, OGG, WAV, AC3, M4A, MP3, WAV etc. Just feel free to read on the detailed tutorial.

Step 1: Download Pavtube MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac, install and launch it.

After launching, you will see this interface. Click “Add” button to load MTS and M2TS files to this program, or you can drag and drop your files to it directly.

Step 2: Choose MP4 as output format and specify save path

Click on the drop-down list of “Format” to select MP4 as output format. If you want to join all the imported MTS/M2TS files to be one file, just check “Merge into one file”. In addition, suppose you’d like to store the output MP4 files to the destination folder set by yourself, you can press “Browse” button to indicate one; otherwise, the program will automatically load the generated files to the defaulted save path.

Step 3: Set advanced settings

Imaging you would like to recreate your recorded files through adjusting video and audio parameters, you can click “Settings” button to change options like video and audio codec, bit rate, frame rate, sample rate, channels, etc. In that case, you can take control of the output file size as well as video quality. Generally speaking, the larger inserted figures will produce better video quality but corresponding larger file size; the smaller input values will generate more inferior video quality but accompanying with smaller file size.

Step 4: Convert MTS/M2TS to MP4

As soon as the above settings are finished, what you need do next is just hitting “Convert” button to begin format conversion. After completed, press “Open” button to get the output MP4 files.
