When clearing history, it takes much longer than usual

I clear my internet history by right clicking on the icon, properties, and
selecting "clear history". After I do this it takes 8 seconds to clear the
history (even with 1 item in history). It used to clear history instantly,
why does it take so long now?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
