I just installed Windows Messenger 5.0 and now my email
inbox is using my Outlook, which I don't want. I can't
find anything to help me change the email inbox to the
inbox I was using before (which was Hotmail). I do NOT
want to use Outlook with this - do I have to return to an
earlier version of Messenger? And if so, does that mean
I have to remove Windows Messenger and then re-install it?

Greetings Yvette,

Windows Messenger 5 does not have the "Hotmail" feature -- this feature has moved to MSN
Messenger exclusively.

Although you won't see the alerts (toast windows) which notify you of new e-mail, you can
simply change your default mail handler in Windows to Hotmail, which then Windows Messenger 5
will use. To do so, open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then Options, then
Programs tab, then under E-mail choose "Hotmail" and click OK.

Or you can go back to Windows Messenger 4.7, by uninstalling the new version and reinstalling
the old version. To do so, click Start, then Run, type (or copy/paste)
the following:
msiexec.exe /x {ABEB838C-A1A7-4C5D-B7E1-8B4314B10138}
and then click OK.

Then, you can reinstall Windows Messenger 4.7 from here:
