Post subject: Please someone give me advice ... can't see Application or Local Settings folders
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>help_and_support (more info?)

With my settings checked for "show hidden files" and unchecked for "Hide
protected operating system files", I have lost a lot of folders under my
Michael folder in "Documents and Settings" ... the most
noticeable one that is missing is "Application Data" ... but there are
several gone. There is information in my Application data that I need to
help solve a problem that I'm having with Nero.

Does anyone know how I can get those folders to show again? I've tried
clicking "restore defaults", but that doesn't seem to help. I can access
the folders by running %appdata%, but the folder aren't showing.

Thanks in advance ... Michael

Archived from groups: per prev. post (more info?)

i did see you posting from a few
days ago and a bit surprised no
MVP nibbled.

however, the method you are
using is helpful in part, but does
not override customized settings
on the folders properties page.

in the properties of each folder
there are little check boxes that
allow you to hide and or make
the folders read only.

based on what you have explained
open that "app.." folder you mentioned
inside an explorer window.

then be sure you have the view folders
enabled so that you will have two panes.

on the left side you should see a listing
of the folders and by right clicking on
them and selecting properties you might
find the option to "hide" box checked.

you may have to go up the hierachy
to find the parental folder that may
be hidding all the subfolders....

however the "application data" folder should be
under the "local settings" folder which
is under the "userMicheal" account folder.
