XP rebooting with keyboard lockup

Terry, thank you. I stupidly left out some info.

I had, in fact, reformated the drive and done a "fresh install" of XP pro.
The system had been working well for the past couple weeks until last Friday.

The e-machines motherbard (T2792) has "fried" due to the supposedly bogus
original power supply. When I was installing a fresh XP Pro the first time
the computer would not recognize the XP pro disk (and the keyboard would lock
up) until I removed the partition on the hard drive and then everything went
smooth as I said for the past couple weeks. I'm now back to the problem.

I'm still confused here. You said, "the computer would not recognize

for the past couple weeks." Did you have more than one partition? You
first said you reformatted and had done a fresh install.

I've got to head out for a while but any further info would help,

The copy of Windows that came with the e-machine is locked to the
e-machine. Return the replacement computer and have Gateway repair the
e-machine OR purchase a valid license for the replacement computer.

My bad again, the XP pro software I installed was not from E-machines. I
purchased it at a retailer.
