Have tried unsuccessfully to install XP Svc Pack 2 and now noticed that
automatic updates for critical updates also unsuccessful. Error codes:
0x8007F01E, 0xFFFFFBFE, 0x80246007. Please help get this straightened out.
Dell Computer slow. Have cable ISP and run McAfee Anti-virus.

Thank you

Is this the McAfee AV that is offered for free from Comcast ?
If yes, then *strongly* suggest that you scan the system with
Malwarebytes Anti-malware (MBAM)prior to troubleshooting the updating issue:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Click the 'Download free version' button.
Save mbam-setup.exe
Once the download completes close all open browsers and programs.
Now install MBAM and allow it to update during the installation process.
Run MBAM, make sure that Quick scan is chosen, and click the Scan button.
When it's finished, click the Show Results button.
Ensure anything detected is checked and then click the Remove selected
button.

IF anything was detected by the MBAM scan, please post back with it's log.

*IF nothing* was detected, see:

You cannot install some updates or programs
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798

Start with Method 1: Rename the Edb.log file
If no joy, then do the next Methods in order until you reach Method 5.
If the first 5 Methods do not resolve the error, then go here:

How do I reset Windows Update components?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058

Suggest you *completely and totally disable McAfee* when using the
Fixit. The easiest way to do that is to boot to Safe Mode with
networking and then visit the Fixit page:
