After messenger tries to sign in I get a window that
says "signing in to .net messenger service failed because
the password is incorrect or the sign-in name does not
exist. if you have ....Help topics...". If i cancel this
then click the sign in text inside the messenger it has no
problems. I've tried changing the passport in my user
account to no avail. What is the problem? Any help is
appreciated, thanks.

Greetings,

Check your IE Security settings -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then
Internet Options, then Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section, and verify that "Check
for server certificate revocation" is *unchecked*. Also verify that 'Use SSL 2.0' and Use
SSL 3.0' is *checked*, then click OK. Then try again.

If this is specifically occurring when you're starting your computer, it may be that your
firewall software (specially Norton Internet Security) hasn't started yet when Messenger is
trying to connect, and as such, is being blocked. When you try again, the firewall has
started and you're able to connect. There really isn't much you can do about that if that is
the case.

Is there no way to get around the server certificate issue
without disabling it altogether? I know it isn't the
firewall as it does it after everything loads and i
manually try to start messenger as well as when I set it
to start with windows. Thanks.

Hi Combs,

At this point, that's my only suggestion, try it (you can always turn it back on) just to see
if that has any effect.

That solved the problem, but I'd still like to know if
there's a way around this without disabling the server
certificate revocation. Any help is welcome. Thanks.
