Vista: How can I get it to play nice with my two 1080p dev..

I have the same monitor. The 2nd one is a 1080P samsung hdtv.

I built this pc myself for the first time since... 1999 or so. e6600 running
stock with a much bigger fan. Vid card is a 8800 GTS DX10 card, 640mb
version.

I had a 6800 ultra in my old xp box that did dual 1080p out, so i bet this
one can too. Im also running the latest version of nvidia drivers (non beta)
in vista, so that isn't the case for me I don't think.

I run xp on another drive array, so it's not like the end of the world or
anything.

Just would be kinda nice if Nvidia, or maybe MS could offer a Vista patch
where you could say, "this is a 1080p device (force resolution) blah blah
make 100% sure your device is indeed this res.

corporate headquarters in Texas.
If you are certain the device can support the resolution, you can:

1. Go under Display properties
2. Click on the settings tab
3. Click on "advanced"
4. Go to the monitor tab and uncheck "Hide modes that this monitor
cannot display"

This should give you to option to "force" the resolution you want to go
out.

I am not certain if you are having issues getting the output to the TV
or monitor. If it’s the monitor, there should be drivers available
online, however TV’s don’t usually have Windows drivers available.

nope, the Dell monitor is correctly displaying in the correct resolution
thankfully.

well, in vista i tried going to the display settings, clicking on monitor 2
(tv) advanced settings, clicked on the Adapter tab, and checked out the list
of "List of valid modes" and I do not see 1920x1200 listed, only 1680x1050.
(while TV was on)

So well... Not sure if I am in the right area or not in Windows Vista Home
Premium to adjust this setting.

That should be the "adaptor" tab, the next tab should say "monitor" and
allow you to uncheck a box that says "Hide modes that this monitor
cannot display".

Thanks again for the help. I did find and uncheck the box next to 'hide
modes this monitor does not support' but it still won't let me choose 1080P.


Wonder if Nvidia has something hidden in their control panel to select it, I
can't seem to find it in their simple menu though, (even in advanced)

This is a VERY simple issue. You have two pieces of hardware, your
monitor and graphic card. They BOTH need to support the resolution you
want to run at.

All 1080P means is the resolution of the picture is 1,920 vertical
pixels by at least 1,080 horizontal pixels with 'p' standing for
progressive scanning as opposed to interlaced scanning.

1. Check your monitor manual. Does it support this resolution?
2. Check your graphic card. Does it support this resolution?

If the answer is YES to BOTH, then you shouldn't have any issues
ASSUMING you have both devices set up correctly. RTFM!

I suspect the real problem is you don't have the latest Vista drivers
for your graphic card IF the answer to the other questions are both
yes.

For example I'm running a nearly two year old Dell Ultra Sharp 24 inch
wide LCD monitor with a Nvidia graphic card which is rated HD with
it's default resolution set to 1920x1200. Note that exceeds the
minimum 1080 horizontal resolution. It works fine under Vista, BUT I
had to update the graphic card to Vista drivers.

two 2560x1600 resolution displays. (my old 6600 ultra supported this too as

drivers that aren't in beta. 162.22. (July 26th, 2007) since I built this
computer from the ground up after that date anywho. I downloaded the latest
drivers right away, but it was a good idea to check and see if there were new
ones out yet.

What version is your driver? Man I haven't seen RTFM in a while...

It's getting old, haven't changed it in at least a couple months,

my graphic card ===> NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT
using Driver Version 7.15.11.0141

If I recall correctly I had tried another generic driver off the
NVIDIA site or somebody posted a link somewhere but the above one was
specifically linked off my motherboard's site. Shouldn't make a
difference, but who knows. <shrug>

What any card is suppose to support may not always be implemented or
supported in all systems.

Well, i downloaded the beta drivers (aug 20th 07) and now it lists 1080p as a
resolution.

So now it does display, but only in black and white. I blame Nvidia's
drivers, it look like they are the blame here. Man, comon nvidia! Vista's
been out since Feb!

You mean Nov 2006.

I meant full retail, not just the OEM release.

Screwed myself over on getting a free PC since I wanted to wait till the
full retail to 'upgrade' to better hardware.

FWIW, bioshock has a beta driver, which finally lets me view 1080p on my tv.
Except, only in black and white. :\
