Hi
I bought a new Dell Inspiron laptop with Vista basic on it. The screensaver
would not work. Contacted Dell with no fix in sight. Did a clean install of
Vista without all the other software and updated the drivers. Still will not
work with a usb mouse or just the touch pad.
Also, when you click on personlize, then screensaver, the tab opens up
behind the one that is open, not on top?
Any ideas?

Restart your computer, then download and install the
following updates:

An update is available that improves the compatibility
and reliability of Windows Vista:

Thanks for the Reply
I tried what you suggested, and still the same problems.
Screensaver does not work even the preview just flashes by.
New taskbar buttons open behind the original.
Any other ideas?

John here, customer advocate at Dell headquarters.

The only thing I can think of is that something is interfering with the
screen saver, perhaps a program or an input device malfunction. Is this
the only symptom you're seeing?

I would first try to activate the screen saver after clean booting as
described in the following article:

'How to perform a clean boot procedure to prevent background programs
from interfering with a game or a program that you currently use'

If the screen saver kicks in there, you know that something you're
filtering out in clean boot is the culprit. If that's the case, use
method 3 as described in the article to fix the problem.

If you need any help, let me know:
