Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>general (more info?)

I have been trying, off and on over the past 8 months, to get my screen
saver to work but with out success. It would seem to be a routine procedure
but my current windows remain open. I had no problem with XP screen savers
in the past. My computer is a Dell Inspiron 9400 bought 10 months ago. I
installed Vista, supplied by Dell, 7 months ago. In the main I have been
able to resolve the other problems encountered after installing Vista.

Thanks for your advice.

Do you have a Microsoft wireless mouse?

Hi Ted,
Have you applied the "Microsoft - Other Hardware - HID Non-user Input data
filter"
optional update from Windows update? This was a fix for the Microsoft
wireless mouse/screen saver problem.

install a critical update from
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/vistaupdate before proceeding with
installation.
This update provides stability improvements to the USB stack under Vista x86
and x64 for Microsoft keyboard and Mice.

Paul and Andre:
Thank you for your advice. Andre's critical update did not install because
it apparently did not apply to my system, according to the message received.
Paul's optional update was installed successfully. My screen now turns off
but the selected screen saver does not appear. I suppose this will suffice.
