Is there a compatibility issue between google earth and vista? Sometimes,
when I am using google earth, windows will freeze and I even cannot use
CTRL+ALT+DEL. This wil leave no choice but to click the restart/start
button. Here are the specs of my PC:
1.83 Ghz Core2 Duo
Nvidia 8500 512 MB
2G RAM

I usually run only media player and google earth at the same time.

Hi Eric,

Make sure you are using the most recent release of Google Earth. I've
experienced exactly 0 errors with it and Vista, even during last year's beta
phase.

I can't tell you what's causing your problem, but I can report that
Google Earth runs fine under Vista here.

I can second that. But you might want to remove some of the "Layer" names
it could be that its getting bound up in a search for location name info
and most of that stuff gets downloaded every time you run Google Earth
when it tries to update your online database.
Just a though.

Check if GE is using Direct X or GL for rendering.

I too have run into same problem. Tried running in Direct X mode (make the
target in the Google Earth shortcut to the following:
"C:\Program Files\Google\Google Earth\googleearth.exe" -setDX
That let it run a bit longer but still froze up. Google likens it to an
inadequate video card and CPU; I don't think so, am running a QuadCore with
NVIDIA
GeForce 8500 GT. If that ain't enough??
Good luck. If you find solution, please post.
Thanks

i am also having some trouble with google earth. It runs very unstable.
It often crashes and sometime it freezes up.
It is quite a bummer.

Running on a C2D E6600 with 4gb RAM and a GF8800GTX 768mb card.
It should run perfect. Sad

It should.

I have Vista Home Premium, the latest version of Google Earth free version,
2 MB of RAM with a 128 MB video card, and I was able to run GE without any
problems and with several programs running in the background. On my Inspiron
E1505 laptop.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling GW. If comfortable editing the
reqistry, make sure that all traces of GE are gone then reinstall.

Hmmm.. I have 4GB RAM and exactly the same video card as you and
Google Earth works fine here. I have Graphics Mode set to DirectX in
Options.
