Greetings all... I have not been able to set up my email proper.. it
doesn't have to be this difficult, and the reason or reasons for this is
that the nice people who set up this complex mail system.., fail to
understand that they are dealing with regular people, and not others like
themselves who deal with this system every day and understand it well.. WE,
on the other side, DO NOT..! SO, why can't it be simple.. easy.. and not so
darn fustrating.. and another point, .. "provide the answers so they can be
found without being directed to places that do not... " This is not a new
kind of problem.. I see it all the time... Directions explained by people
who take for granted that they are instructing other people that have a vast
knowledge of a given system... and understand all aspects as well as the
instructor... I hope this message finds its way to someone that cares.. at
this point however, I have no idea where it is directed or where it will
land...

When you changed the port to 587 you should probably have checked the box on
the Servers tab of the Account Properties that your outgoing server requires
authentication. I would check with BT about what the settings should be.
(For this purpose you can follow the instructions for Outlook Express.

Different people require different degrees of 'hand-holding'
when it comes to computer issues. We have no way of knowing
ahead of time which category you fit in.
Describing your issue as "not been able to set up my email proper"
is not very helpful to a potential helper. Since you probably pay
good money every month to your ISP, call them up and have them
walk you through it. There are no universal email account settings
since it is heavily dependent on what your ISP has set up on their
end.
