The new Ubuntu is here!

I hear they have shed out some 20,000,000 copies already. At this rate, it
will be overtaking Windows 7.

I told you my countdown would not be for nothing! It worked a treat and and
everybody has listened to me.

By doing it in a Vista forum, I must have converted at least half the people
in here, so it was all worthwhile.

Joy to the world!

Five years and Ubuntu will be on all PCs.

Rock'n'roll

Well, you didn't convert me! Very Happy

I did some research, but I'm just not interest enough to take the time
needed to learn how to install and use it, or decipher the programs that
will run on it.

Thanks, but no thanks. I'll stick with familiar Vista!

Was it? Shoot! It's hard to keep up with which identical screennames are
the genuine originals around here. I guess I'm going to have to modify
my viewed header options to tell everyone apart.

If anybody used KristleBawl as their name, then that would it is illegal.

You should call Charlie Tame and the police, 911 or 999. Charlie has a nice
big helmet!

I'm glad the ubuntu team is working hard. That was the distro I was gonna go
with (it was either ubuntu or Fedora) if not for 1 simple fact. Linux has
next to no hardware support. That was its downfall in my attempted conversion
to the linux world.

Believe me, I tried and I tried - nothing would make me happier than dumping
windows like the pile of bloatware it is. But until hardware manufacturers
allow linux to operate on a level playing field with the likes of Microsoft
and Apple - it'll never happen.

Practicallity won over idealism in this case. In short, Linux is perfection
in an imperect world. *sigh*

Note: My opinion of Windows will be completely turned around If they
implement one very simple business plan - distribute windows as a barebones
OS with absolutely no other programs (except of course light utilities like
paint, notepad etc) and allow the user to pick and choose exactly what they
wish to install as additional 'modules' (e.g. want windows media player? go
to the website, pay an additional fee and its yours). Doing this would also
allow them to cut the price by half if not more of the parent OS and one
could say increase their market share to boot, or so you could tell redmonds
board Wink

/my 2 cents.

Rubbish! Linux distributions in general have MORE hardware support than
Windows, at least until Windows 7 came along...

Rubbish! It didn't have what the OP was looking for and that's all that
counts. The user was not happy.

Running it now mate, as we speak.....not on this machine but on my Netbook
which is open beside me..... I /have/ run it on this machine, and have used
Linux on and off ever since the mid nineties.
Perhaps it's YOU who have never tried Linux... your silly statement would
tend towards that scenario...

Someone who labels someone else's practical and logical opinion as "rubbish!"
Should not preach to others about writing "silly statements". Hypocrite much?

Perhaps the only over embellishment I made was about "next to no". But when
you can't get get just 1 simple printer talking properly with the OS (and
even if you do you still lose a host of advance features because the
manufactuer gives only the token gesture of just a driver that doesn't work
properly anyway) than one mask ask oneself - is it practical? Answer is
emphatic: No.

That's not to say I dislike linux (read original post) but its the realsitic
world we live in. If you refuse to see that and live in denial - that's your
perrogative.

I believe "vista succubus Hunter" would agree.

That's just one out of thousands then.....that does NOT constitute "no
hardware support".

either the windows, linux or apple genre...if you catch my drift ^_~
