| When I put in an USB-memory (disk or stick), my computer used to come up
with a window with a number of suggestions what to do with the USB-unit.
That however doesn't happen any more. I have no problem accessing and
working with that unit, but the "suggestion window" simply isn't there.
Anyone got a clue how to get it back?

Try inserting the USB device in question. Go to Control Panel | Hardware and
Sound | Autoplay.
Check that the device in question has "Ask me every time" selected or "Take
no action." If the latter, change to "Ask me every time" for that device.

Hi Hakvinius,
It may be a AutoPlay setting that is off or has been changed. Put your
USB devices in and check in AutoPlay to see if you see anything for
"what to do" settings for a USB device. You can use this as a guide on
AutoPlay.

Extended sound CD (A)
DVD-movie (A)
Extended DVD-movie (A)
Software and games (B)
Pictures (B)
Video files (B)
Sound files (B)
Empty CD (B)
Empty DVD (B)
Mixed Content (B)
HD DVD-movie (C)
Blue Ray Movie (C)
DVD-Audio (C)
Video-CD (C)
Super Video-CD (C)
Digital video unit (B)
Canon PowerShot S3 IS (C)
Settings for each of the units above:
(A) Play in Windows Media Player
(B) Ask me every time
(C) Choose a standard value |

Hakvinius,
Was the USB device plugged in when you checked AutoPlay settings?

Hi Shawn,
Yes it was. I actually tried twice with different devices (one USB HDD and
one USB Memory Stick).

Umm, I do not know then. You might try clicking Computer in the Start
Menu and right click the USB device and click Properties to check and
see if there is some setting that may be responsible for it. Wish I
knew more for you to try. AutoPlay is usually the culprit.
