Post subject: Sharing Files issue
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>basics (more info?)

When sharing files on the network (most PCs are running XP),
you sometimes get the error that the file is only available as Read-Only.
I understand why...but is there a way to have the error say:
File is locked for editing by XXXXX XXXXX = the user name.
I tried finding info in the database on this issue and it appears that
some type of criteria allows this type of message to come up, where it
indicates "who" is editing the file, but I can figure out (or find) what
that criteria is. Right now the message that we get
is "The file is locked for editing. You can open the file with Read-Only
access".
It does not say who is editing it.

Just trying to figure out if there is an easier way to find out WHO.

Thank you.
