Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>general (more info?)

Share to web is a thing that HP send when you download certain upgrades. I
never had the problem but I have done some research, it seems my problem is
not new, not only could you not remove it from XP but it is unmovable from
the desktop. HP have put a fix for the XP problem on there website at
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=bpy20755
But this fix don't work on Vista, I am probably not the first who had to get
new drivers for my HP printer after installing Vista, Share to web comes
along without asking. So I can't remove it, or remove it from my desktop.
Anybody got any ideas?

It's either embedded in the driver or in other software that you might have
installed for the printer. It's an HP issue and they seem to recognize it
if they have provided a fix for XP. I would assume, especially if they get
enough inquiries, questions, complaints about it that they will ultimately
do the same for Vista.

I would certainly say its HP. HP does put an awful lot of software on when
you install their CD so I am not surprised when you get this problem. I
would go to the HP site and search for the Vista driver for you printer
model

It came with my printer driver updates, so I uninstalled the drivers and it
went away, I then again installed the drivers and paid attention, but it
just came along unasked. And there it sits unusable in my desktop. I have
contacted HP, no reply, the fix for XP came 2 years after it was spotted. I
suspect this subject may come back.

It know is not a perfect solution, but you can right click the icon on your
desk top and check "Hidden". At least it won't show on your desk top.

Graham:

From the sharkyexterme.com forum:

1. Double click on the icon to open the folder.
2. Select Tools --> Folder Options
3. Select Settings Tab.
4. Click Setup button.
5. Choose Do Not Show Share-To-Web Folder.

Note, this does not remove share to web, it simply removes it from view.
You also might want to check the services list and disable it there as well.
Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Services.

Nope, it doesn't react, it also does not appear in the desktop menu
anywhere, I can't move it, nothing. No it is nowhere in the software removal
on the image board, it is no place, except stuck on my desktop. I could give
you a dozen sites for this problem in XP, but as my Vista is in Dutch I went
a searching in Dutch. And the good thing is while searching for a problem I
learn more about Vista. Maybe it is just a Dutch problem, I don't hear
anybody saying 'I needed new drivers from HP and got Share to Web.' I guess
I will just push it behind my sidebar, but nowadays sidebar is transparent
and I still see the bugger Wink

And an hour later nothing, that was the first thing I did, ask someone on
sharkyexterme if it ever worked, remember this has been a long problem on
XP, ask them if they ever tried it on Vista, it doesn't work. I fear Michael
you were correct the first time, wait till bloody HP deems to give us a
solution.
