I have a Vista Desktop with an Epson printer and a XP laptop. Prior to the
Vista I had a XP desktop and the XP laptop shared the printer and worked
fine. I am now trying to get the new printer and desktop to work with the
laptop. I have gone to the printers and fax tab on my laptop and tried to
add a printer. I clicked on the network printer or printer attached to
another computer, then browse for a printer. I have changed my vista
computer to match the network that is set up on the laptop, I then type in
the name of the printer as it appears on the desktop, EPSON.... and highlight
the network name that the desktop has been changed to and I get "Windows
cannot connect to the printer. Either the printer name was typed incorrectly
or the specified printer has lost its connection to the server.

First things first...please make sure you have the latest drivers
installed for your particular printer. Then,
Go to 'start/control panel' and choose 'printers and other hardware'
then 'view installed printers or fax printers.'
Right click on the printer you wish to share and select 'sharing…'
Choose the 'share this printer' option and give the printer a share
name. Note that this name will be used to locate and identify the
printer over the network, so it should have no more than 8 letters and
no spaces or characters.

After this, you will surely solve your problem.
