With only a few hairs left on my head I thought I'll give this group a
try. This is the scenario, on a home PC with XP SP2 Home Ed installed I
have 3 family members who want to use either MSN messenger (to
communicate with friends) or Windows Messenger (to video con' etc...
over a VPN connection for work use). The behavior of Windows Messenger
before MSN Messenger was installed was that if it was configured to
autostart and log in automatically the Messenger icon would appear in
the tool tray.
Now when MSN Messenger is installed, you can get MSN Messenger to auto
start and login (with it's icon in the tool tray) which is great for my
daughter. However, no matter what I do for the other logins when MSN
Messenger is not configured to autostart and Windows Messenger is,
Windows Messenger will never display it's icon in the tool tray
automatically. Outlook Express in one login will display the online
status and Outlook 2003 on the other will occasionally display who's
logged in, so Windows Messenger is running in the background. The only
way I can get the tool tray icon up is to manually start Windows Messenger.
Thus the question is, is it possible for both MSN Messenger and Windows
Messenger to co-exist and for both to still behave normally as if only
one or the other in installed?
Cheers!!
