Post subject: Network adapters are hidden devices
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>hardware (more info?)
Hi,
i hawe problem with network. The tree in device list, with network devices
is invisible. Network dosnt work, ipconfig dosnt work, ping on localhost is
ok.

I check settings "Show hidden devices" and all network adapters are found
and no
error message. I can disable or enable network but cannot uninstall driver
become message as "Device is reguired for system start".

Can someone help?

If the network adapters appear after using "Show hidden devices" option,
all it indicates that the device is physically present. But it might not
also be operational. As RalfG suggests, the driver files may be missing.
In addition, if the network adapter is built into the motherboard, then
check that it is also enabled in the bios setup.

Usually the virtual networking devices are hidden but your physical adapter
(ethernet, WiFi) should be visible. If it isn't then there is a problem with
the driver or the device itself. If the hardware device icon is present in
the hidden list but dimmed, with no errors, then the driver is probably fine
but the device isn't being detected.

Another web forum poster, although this one did at least have the original
post - but not the whole conversation - included when it was likely pushed
back to the actual newsgroups it probably started from.

It seems english is not either person's primary language. You may benefit
from posting in a newsgroup (or other forum) that is in the language that
*s* your primary one.

First - download and install the latest driver for the network device.

If you cannot do that - boot into Safe Mode and remove the driver that is
installed for it there. Then reboot into normal mode and install the latest
driver.
