Net framework versions needed?

Can't update with winxp Microsoft net framework 2.0 sp2 when autoupdates
notifies me. Noticed that I have 1.1, 2.0, and 3.0 in my control panel
program add/remove program list. Tried to delete them to start over but
deletion program can not find them under D&S\name\locals~. Are they suppose
to be there since I am dealing with 2.0 sp2?

Any other recommendations in getting update to work installing 2.0 sp2?

Tried installing from MS website and it said that I have it installed
already. What is going on here and why can't I uninstall the previous
versions which MS asked me to do?
