Jonathan,

MSN Messenger is a great product and improvement over previous versions.
However from having studied this newsgroup for some time now I find that you
are very vigilant and provide good answers to people's questions apart from
in the area of Audio where hundreds of folks are having serious problems
getting it to work including me. Surely you could at least acknowledge that
the problem exists and Microsoft are looking into it. Maybe 6.1 will address
these issues so why not say as much so at least we know that we will need to
wait. Also advice on MS website re. Firewall settings are still in my mind
too complex for laypeople to understand.

Greetings Nick,

The problem with Audio issues are there are so many factors which can cause problems. If the
pre-existing "rules" for Windows Messenger 4.x are followed with MSN Messenger 6, voice
conversations can be successful with minor exceptions.

I can't comment on MSN Messenger 6.1 at this point.

Hi doh,

Problems after upgrades have *always* been a problem with Messenger, usually do to
third-party applications.

ok jonathon,
I know it would be impossible to test every scenario.

So whats the best approach. uninstall everything
(messenger and third party applications)and reinstall it?

would that clear all of the appropriate reg keys or would
they stay they so that when you reinstall they are just
picked up again?

doh

Hi doh,

That sometimes helps, although with the exception of Windows Messenger 4.x, when you
uninstall MSN Messenger, the registry keys remain (you have to mainly go into the registry
and remove them).
