Loaded WIN XPHome SP1a with Norton Anti-Virus ON

After load SP1A with Norton Anti-Virus ON, I am having
problems with searching (Blank gray Search Companion
window), NONE for various file types including Internet
Explorer, Drive, etc ...

Any ideas on how I can recover the file associations - I
don't have a back-up of the registry file, or any other
backup for that matter.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
