Post subject: Help! Comp gaming issues after formating.
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>games (more info?)

Well i have a custom built computer, But lately for some reason its
reading my Westinghouse LCM- 19w4 as a basic plug and play. I recently
had to format my HD from a worm infection. And games i used to be able
to play, now just stick on the splash screen- Mirror's Edge, Prototype,
Mass effect.

Also- FFXI blackscreens on loadup after the playonline load. Some
other games work just fine, including WoW, and CS:S, Even Freenalncer.

Running on Windows XP,

Seagate Barracuda 1.5TB Hard Drive ST31500341AS - 7200RPM, 32MB Cache,
SATA-3G

BFG GeForce GTX 260 OC MAXCORE Video Card - 896MB GDDR3, PCI Express
2.0, (2) Dual Link DVI, SLI Ready, VGA and HDMI Adapter, Component
Cable

BFG GS-550 ATX Power Supply - 550W, SATA-Ready

Kingston PC6400 800MHz 4GB DDR2 Desktop Memory - 4096MB, 240 Pin

Asus M3N78 PRO Motherboard CPU Bundle - AMD Phenom 9500 2.20GHz Retail
Processor

Thats the shopping list i used to order the parts, and put together the
computer, As i said, its running on Windows XP, And i have the most
update drivers for the video card. I'm not sure if it has anything to do
with the moniter not being able to be read as anything but a plug and
play, or if theres something more. Any input, or even anything else that
i need to clarify to help would be welcome =)

Hello,

Make sure you install up to date drivers for all of your PC hardware (MB,
sound, NIC, video, etc). Your MB especially requires drivers to operate many
of its key features.
I experienced the same problems with my PC after I replaced my MB, but was
easily fixed after I installed all the drivers for my MB.

I hope this helps out.

Scott

:: sighs and grumbles:: I just went and tried to update the drivers for
everything.. i think i used Driver genius. it was fine, up untill i got
to the um... 07/12/09 release of the nvidia drivers.. When it reset for
the drivers install, the screen wouldnt connect to the desktop. as in i
turned off the computer completely, turned it on, and the moniter is
saying theres no signal input. I've even tried taking the backup battery
out- its solved the problem before. But it did nothing. :: facepalms::
So much for thinking myself even semi computer savy.. That one year
course 6 years ago isnt helping anymore lol

I do know that at this point its more of a hardware issue though, since
its not even getting to DOS or the BIOS screen for me to try to get into
safemode on the comp, i'll try a few small things, and i'll post again
if they work. but i'm still open to suggestions.
