Post subject: Grayed Out Screen (Never received a reply)
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>general (more info?)

I have been waiting since July 20, for an answer.
Does anyone know why this happens?

Before I start my new problem, I would like to ask DELL-Bill B to read by
previous problem
"Re: XPS 710 Does not always wake up from sleep "
I answered him thanking him for solving my problems.
Now for a different problem:

Sometimes when I turn my computer on in the morning, the screen that shows
Microsoft
Corporation came up with the Microsoft Corporation name very light that you
could hardly see it. The green/yellow lights that usually crawl across as it
is booting up do not appear and the screen just sits there doing nothing.
I then turned the machine off.
When I turned it back on, I get the screen that asks, do you want safe mode,
last good configuration, normal boot, etc.
I selected last good configuration and that worked.
Sometimes if that doesn't work, I select normal boot.
Sometimes normal works and sometimes last good configuration works.
I never know till I try it. If it doesn't work, it boots up again with the
grayed name.

Why did this happen?
Any ideas?

Well I can't let you go another post with no reply, so here goes...

Sounds a bit erratic in terms of what works and what doesn't, so I reckon
I'd try a 'chkdsk' on the drive, which may clear up a few problems.

Right-click c: in Computer > Properties > Check Now (under error checking) >
Check the top box only and click the 'ok's for the check on reboot
