i need this program group (dell support tools)...was wondering if there was a
way to disable the folder window opening on startup, without uninstalling it.
have xp home sp2

Yes, and this problem is usually due to a misplaced quote in the registry
reference loading some tool contained in that folder. Rather than load the
tool, it stops at the space in the name, because the quote is missing, and
opens the folder.

The article at the link below refers to the System32 folder, but the
principle is the same.

You can look in msconfig to find the item that isn't loading properly.

Hi dave,

There is probably a startup entry that is missing quotation marks which
is causing the folder to open when you start your computer. If you
could post a copy of the Startup log or email the log file at

wcrawford AT mvps DOT org

then we may be able to track down the startup entry that is causing the
problem.
