XP Pro SP3.

The update associated with KB953297 will not install. I have automatic updates set to
on, but I get the yellow shield in the systray telling me updates are ready to install.

I tell it to install, and get this message:
"Initializing installation... done!
Installing Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Security Update for Windows
2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server
2008 R2 (KB953297) (update 1 of 1)... "

It sits there for a few seconds, then tells me that the install failed.

This occurs over and over.

When I shut down the computer, I get the message that an update will be installed, so
I let it run. The machine eventually shuts down. This has happened for several days.

I re-registered the update dlls, then went to the update site, and reviewed my
updates, and this one is listed multiple times as failed.

I tried a custom update. The web site tells me the update is downloaded, and ready to
install. I select Install, and it fails.

No server products are involved, nor is the computer on a network of more than 10 others.

Thanks,
Mike

I had the same problem. See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100 for the
solution.

Won't let me delete .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 and .NET Framework 3.0 Service
Pack 2.

Now the Install Cleanup doesn't list anything for 1 or 1.1

I think I've really screwed up.

When I rebooted, 2 & 3 were gone, but now I see 3.5. I tried to uninstall it, but I
think I probably nuked it's install files with the Install Cleanup tool earlier, so
it won't either install or un-install.

I can re-install 1 and 1.1, but 2 fails, telling me that it can't install because of
a previous install (but it doesn't identify it).

I'm desperately looking for a way to correct 3.5, and Google isn't helping a lot this
time.
