I cannot drag the desktop icon to desired location on my notebook. It goes
back to original spot but I could do it previosly and also do it on my desk
top pc. I have unchecked Auto Arrange and checked Align to Grid.

Right click the start Button and select properties, then under Start Menu
click on Custom button then click on Advanced Tab and make sure the check
box for Enable dragging and dropping is selected.

Also right click your desktop >> Arrange Icons >> Make sure the Lock web
items on desktop is unchecked and Show Desktop icons is selected.

All my settings were as "nass" suggested. My first description of the problem
is not accurate. What I should write is this: I can drag and drop, but the
desktop icon will not stay in the desired spot on the desktop, it goes back
to the original location. Is it a problem in the registry values? Does
anybody have any other suggestion?

Thank you Elmo. The Kelly's korner tweaks you suggested did not work. I did a
system restore to an earlier date and after that I was able to drag the icons
to the desired spots on the desktop and the icons stayed put. The registry
must have been disturbed somehow, perhaps when auto updates of software take
place to upset the desktop workings. The problem has nothing to do with menu
selection for icon arragement, Auto Arrange etc.
