THIS WAS ORIGINALLY POSTED ON 10/27 ON THE PERFORMANCE AND MAINTENANCE
DISCUSSION THREAD BUT NO ONE ANSWERED. I know there is some etiquette about
multiple postings but I am not sure how it applies here. My apologies if
this is inappropriate. Anyway, here goes:

A colleague of mine has a very new Sony Vaio laptop with Vista Business
loaded. Plenty of memory. She is experiencing a bizarre problem where the
context menu (usually but apparently not always the one that would appear if
you right click on the desktop) keeps appearing without her right clicking.
It happens so often that the computer is essentially nonfunctional.

We assumed it might be a defective mouse but that was readily disproved by
switching mice. Does anyone think this is a hardware problem, e.g. some
problem with the the touchpad, or is there some software setting problem? Or
do we just have some corrupted driver or other software?

Thanks for your help.

It's quite fine for you to post again but if you haven't gotten an
answer, it may be that no one knows or has seen/experienced the problem.
Of course it could be a bad driver - get the latest touchpad drivers
from Toshiba and see what happens. Of course it could be bad hardware -
if the latest drivers don't help, have your colleague call Sony tech
support for repair/replacement.

Some laptops have a touchpad off function key to turn the touch pad off when
you have an external mouse.
If yours doesn't try downloading the latest drivers to see if it has that
option or fixes the problem.
If it doesn't you can eliminate the touchpad as the problem by disabling it
in device manager.

Also you could try an external keyboard if you have one.
