Post subject: Can't Connect to XP
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>work_remotely (more info?)

Hi,

Here's the scenario, I used to be able to remote into my parent's
network when they were using Verizon DSL and their wifi router/modem.
Now they're using earthlink (twc behind the scenes) and a linksys
wrt54g router, I cannot connect anymore and receive 'Generic Platform
Web 0' login box, I've tried typing in router login, PC admin, even
earthlink login info and cannot connect to the PC.

Here's what I've tried so far:
I opened a DynDNS account, but I get the same message whether I use
url or ip addy.

I've forwarded the port to 3389 using the url 1 below, but I
discovered that I cannot see port 3389 (url 2) despite twc claims that
they do not block any port.

Then I discovered that port 80 was open (again with url 2), then i
tried to setup rdp using port 80 with the directions below but I still
get the login box that says generic platform web 0, you can see a
screenshot of this box using url 4.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm thinking this logon you see might be from the Linksys router itself, if
it's set to allow remote Web-based config.

If so, you either need to set the router to not allow remote admin, or else
change the router web-admin port (or the web remote-control port) to remove
the clash on 80.

A test with the PC switched off should tell you whether it's coming from the
PC, or somewhere upstream. Likewise a test with the router off might tell you
if it's being produced by the ISP.

Thanks for replying, following your advice I tried the following, and
got the same login box:
1. disable windows firewall
2. Power down the PC
3. Unplug the router

After each step, I tried to connect with my blackberry. But I still
get that login box (it's not the router credentials)
It's got to be the ISP

I haven't tried the reconfiguring the router for remote admin, will
try that next weeeknd.
