Cannont change "display name"

Even though I just started using Messenger, I'm pretty
knowledgeable about computers otherwise but can't figure
out what's going on here. All I want to do is change
my "display name" as it appears to others. Right now I
show up as being just an email address but want it to
show my name instead. When I try to modify this as
instructed to in the Helps (right click name > select
properties > type new name) the field I need to change is
locked up for some reason? (gray instead of black
letters). What next? Thanks

It's grayed out because your e-mail address is not verified. You'll need to verify your
e-mail address with Passport in order to change your name. To do so, simply click the
verification link in the verification e-mail that should come within 48 hours of signing up
your e-mail address as a Passport.

If it's already been 48-hours, you can request another verification e-mail from Passport
