Bluetooth Device Won't Start

Thanks for the links, Paul. I followed the insructions to delete all the USB
ports...unfortunately no change.

troubleshoot Bluetooth detection and connectivity problems in Windows XP
Service Pack 2" provide some ideas with regard to your "Vista and back down
to XP SP2 case":

Thanks for the link. I actually already tried that site...unfortunately, I
don't even have the device listed under device manager (even though it is
built in! and functions in Vista!), and if I try the bthprops.cpl command, I
get nothing...it is like XP has just killed it...driving me crazy!

Presumably have you in Device Manager, View, checked the Show Hidden
Devices, just to make sure no clues are there, as well is the Control Panel /
Add Hardware track tried, troubleshooting Hardware.

Manager, however are there some tips "in between".

If I am in 'Safe Mode', clicking "show hidden devices" shows the Bluetooth
device. In normal mode, clicking "show hidden devices" doesn't show a
bluetooth device...

In control panel, no bluetooth choice exists...additionally, running
bthprops.cpl does nothing...

The reason why I referred to the Toshiba article is the information:

"The installation of this Bluetooth Stack on non Toshiba hardware may cause
installation problems. All Toshiba OEM Bluetooth Stack users should check
their Bluetooth hardware vendor website for an update. Ensure that just one
Bluetooth software (Stack) is installed. Remove all other 3rd party Bluetooth
Stacks. Always just install the Bluetooth software, which was delivered with
the Bluetooth hardware otherwise the Bluetooth adapter may not be detected!
Remove the Bluetooth Monitor software if it is installed. (It should only be
used if the MS-Stack should be active)"

- was as Windows XP includes a built-in Bluetooth stack with the Service
Pack 2, the missing Toshiba Bluetooth Stack not unlikely COULD be caused by a
conflict between the two kinds. Vista is apparantly different, accordingly to
the Wikipedia article:

Not knowing how you did carry out the "restore back to XP", is it kind of
hard to be more specific with regard to an advice rather than say the aim
here have to be, given the culprit is the conflict, remove the conflicting
Bluetooth Stack not to be used and then install the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack
in accordance with the advices given by Toshiba.

I assume, when in Safe Mode, you in Device Manager, Bluetooth device checked
for any errors in the Conflicting Device list. Refer Microsoft article:

Well...I had given up. I wanted to watch TV at work, so I bought a Pinnacle
Systems PCTV HD Pro Stick. I installed the software for that...and I am in
business. Bluetooth works like a charm now...ridiculous.

Bluetooth Device Won't Start

I am using a VAIO VGN-SZ110 running XP SP2 (having already upgraded to Vista
and back down to XP SP2). I am unable to install drivers for my built-in
bluetooth device (trying the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack).

When I upgraded to Vista, BT worked fine, restored back to XP, now BT is not
listed in the control panel or device manager. When starting the computer,
the BT light is on, but it turns off as XP loads after I log in.

If I try and install the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack, it gets to the driver, and
then repeatedly tells me to plug in my bluetooth device - it can't find it.
If I try and 'Add New Hardware', I get a "software for the device is now
installed, but it may not work correctly. (Code 10)" error.

Has anyone found a fix for this issue? I am out of ideas...thanks!

Perhaps you should try the non-Toshiba Bluetooth Utility:

Is your unknown XP Retail or OEM?

Did Bluetooth work correctly before the Vista upgrade? Did you
remember to do a full system backup before you upgraded to Vista? Did
any other install media originally ship with your notebook that would
cover this?
