Hi Juan--

This might be your problem. If it doesn't provide a solution, and you have
a Vista DVD, I'd put it in and run Startup Repair.

Screen goes black when you switch the screen orientation during slide show
playback in Windows Vista or in Windows XP SP2
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926670/en-us

__________________________________

If you elect to run Startup repair from the Vista DVD (it can fix major
components in Vista; it's gooid for more than startup problems, and the Win
RE team simply screwed up when they named it not understanding its full
functionality):

Startup Repair will look like this when you put in the Vista DVD:

http://www.vistaclues.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/12/click-repair-your...mputer.

You run the startup repair tool this way (and system restore from here is
also sometimes effective):

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925810/en-us

How To Run Startup Repair In Vista Ultimate (Multiple Screenshots)
http://www.windowsvista.windowsreinstall.com/vistaultimate/repairstart...index.h

It will automatically
take you to this on your screen:

http://www.vistaclues.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/12/click-repair-your...mputer.

That will allow you to go to the Vista setup that has a Repair link on the
lower left corner>click it and then you'll see a gray backgrounded list and
I want you to click Startup Repair from it and follow the directions.

The gray screen after you click the first link in the above pic will look
like this:

http://www.windowsreinstall.com/winvista/images/repair/staruprepair/Image17.gif

Click Startup Repair, the link at the top and after it scans>click OK and
let it try to repair Vista. It will tell you if it does, and if it
doesn't, try System Restore from the Recovery Link on the DVD. If these
don't work booting into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key and using System
Restore from one of the safe modes besides VGA may work. That means you
have the option to try 4 different safe modes to get to system restore, (one
from the Recovery link on the DVD)and sometimes one will work when the
others won't.

Hi,
It happens to me on my brand new Toshiba A200 with ATI Mobility Radeon
HD2600. ATI refused to provide support. I am thinking to roll back to XP.

I have the Toshiba A200 as well and have the same problem; but it's Windows
Vista Power Saving feature. I'm not sure if it will work however on looking
at the timing of my blackouts they seem to match the settings in the Power
Options. Search "Power options" in the Control Panel and there will be
options for when you're on battery or AC which you can change. I've changed
mine tonight and trust it will work. Good luck. Don't go back to XP
yet.......

> Hi all - I am having the same problems. I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 and I
also have ATI Radeon. I've been told two things. First, you need 2GB to run
Vista because Vista takes 1GB all by itself and second, a Dell representative
uninstalled my video driver and reinstalled a new driver from the ATI
website. It hasn't gone black since but it's only been through the day
today. I'll keep you posted.

I only have 1 GB, what do you all have?

I was able to stop this black screen problem by disabling the power options
in the "Intel Graphics Accelerator Driver for mobile" options. Seems this was
conflicting with the vista power options for the display.

Not sure if this is the case with everyone but it worked for me. If you do
not have the icon in the notification area, you can go to the control panel
then it is listed as "Intel(R) GMA Driver for Mobile."

There may be similar options for other graphic drivers.

My machine is a Dell Inspirion 6400 (1505) running Vista Ultimate w/ 2gb ram.
Give Vista a chance, we went through the same learning curve with XP.

Hope this helps.
