Post subject: Black Screen-System restore-Uninstall Programs
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>general (more info?)

My startup screen is going bonkers..I downloaded Pogo.com and also Window
Live One.........the screen blinks black-wait a few seconds - then desktop
pops up- then screen goes black again and then desl top stays on...
I have no virus..etc= ran a scan
I did a removal of BOTH programs and all the games I downloaded from the
ADD/REMOVE section on control panel.

While it took the programs OFF the add/remove and start up - it still leaves
some of the programs ON the DESKTOP as a link to click onto..

I am still having the black screen on and off-- and I DO have McAfee
Security Suite.

Can someone help as I am reading horror stories on here with system restore
and do NOT know what to do...My computer came with WIN VISTA HOME PREMIUM on
it..it is not a retail version of Vista..Toshiba laptop is only 8 mos old and
this was havoc that also happened in July and NO ONE ( ie terrific computer
techs) could fis it without do a complete new installation and a new hardrive
( which is on the laptop currently).

I have no idea what is going on - I have 1 gig of memory so I know there is
enough for gaming on this computer as it is also able to do AutoCad if I want
to add it.

PLEASE HELP -this is driving me nuts and I am not computer savvy.

Andy

Did this screen issue start after you did the download, are you sure it
is connected with that?

Does the machine work okay otherwise? The blank screen pauses could just
be a result of something else taking a while to start up, your McAfee
anti virus service or something similar. This may not be a real problem
if the machine works okay otherwise, possibly changing some settings
with programs that are starting up could cure it. Personally I wouldn't
use McAfee (or Norton) if you paid me to use them, they are installed
because the machine vendor is bribed to install them, not because they
are worth anything.

You may be able to do a system restore, but isolating the cause is a
good plan because then you know what not to do next time Smile

Bert-HELP
I went to uninstall my WINDOW OFFICE 2007 and my computer would not let me
uninstall it..I got this error message:

error 1310 error writing to file :C:\Config.Msi\930857.rbf

verify that you have access to that directory-
set up failed .rollng back changes

I continued to try to uninstall and then got THIS message:

Error 1310. Error writing to file: C\ConfigMsi\9308bbrbf

Verify that you have access to that directory.

I have no idea what either of those messages mean.. I am set up as
administrator of the computer ( someone did it for me)....

SO THEN I decided to BACK UP my files and do a system restore-- after my
first back up disc was done , the BACK UP FROZE and I am unable to get it to
conitnue with my 2nd disc.

I am ready to toss this computer in the garbage....

PLEASE help...

Many thanks

Andy
