Post subject: Adding a second (microsoft) USB mouse, can't get wheel to work?
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>general (more info?)

Hi there.

Im running Windows XP SP2 + all fixes released. Upon til today I only
had a "Microsoft Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 6000", connected through
USB. Everything worked well, except for the poor performance in games
which is why I decided to buy another mouse.

Today I got the "Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0", which I also
connected on USB. Now it seems these two mice can cooperate on the
system with just one, VERY annoying glitch. The mousewheel on my
Intellimouse explorer just wount work, unless I unplug the Wireless
laser mouse, then the wheel instantly works.

Im using the latest (v6.1 I think) drivers for intellimouse from
Microsoft. No matter what settings I seem to try in the drivers
nothing activates the wheel, only unplugging the first wireless mouse
makes it work, instantly.

Is there any way of getting this to work together? Or is the only
(ugly IMHO) solution to disconnect/connect the mouse I'm using at the
moment?

Regards
/Kristian aka Dudde.
(I have posted this message in a couple different groups, I hope I
don't offend anyone, if so Sorry!)

perhaps plugging in both
your mouse devices into
a single external usb hub will
help route only one mouse
signal/transmission at a time
to your computer.

Hi.

Currently I use the two USB ports in my Monitor. So unfortunately I have
already tried the external hub, and it does not help, but thanks for the tip
anyway.

.....possibly relevant Smile ...recently, two mice showing in Device Manager
on my PC prevented hibernation !
....I didn't think that one could have , or would even want, have more than
one mouse connected to the same PC !
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315664
"This issue may occur when the selective suspend functionality is enabled on
a device that does not support it. This situation may occur when two or more
USB-based devices have the same vendor and product identification numbers,
and when only one of the devices supports the selective suspend
functionality."

regards, Richard
