Sorry if this has been answered before but I have some new machines at
school with XP Home and want them to join a network which is already set up
with some other Win 98 machines. I didn't realize that the Home XP was not
really meant to be used on a domain so have been racking my brain to find
out how to do it. I've found a utility called X-Setup Pro that says it can
do this. Can anyone run me through the setup please?

Thanks a lot

Armando

Armando:

First, if you can, go back to the dealer and ask if you can upgrade the
new computers to XP Pro. This will cost a bit extra but maybe worth it
in the long run. Why XP Home was ever released is strange when it
seemed that the merging of NT and 9x would lead one to believe that we
would end up with one fully functional workstation OS.

If you are connecting XP Home to a per-to-per network then it straight
forward. However there are other limitations in XP Home.

If you are trying to connect XP Home to a domain and if my memory serves
me correctly you can't.

OK thanks, that's what I thought. In fact I was so pissed of with "Home"
that I've installed Linux on another partition in a dual-boot setup and will
network with that.

Armando:

No problem. Hope your dual boot system works out for you.
