Go to the store and purchase a greater size!

One would use a third-party utility such as Partition Manager,
assuming that this local drive with 5 GB is a partition within
a larger hard drive.

If this is just one partition on a larger drive and you want to give it more
space, you'll need to shrink another partition, move that so the unallocated
space is immediately behind the 5 GB partition, then expand it to include
the additional space. XP does not have the tools to do this non
destructively. You'll need 3rd party software to do this such as Partition
Magic, now from Symantec, or Terabyte Unlimited's BootIt NG which has a full
featured 30 day free trial version. Make sure you backup all your data
because if something goes wrong during partitioning work, you can loose
access to it all the data, requiring a clean install of the OS.

Buy a new drive...? If 5 gig is the maximum capacity you can't increase
it.

If the 5 gig is a partition of a larger drive (each partition acts as a
'disk drive' in its own right, each assigned a drive letter), then you need
a software package to repartition the drive.
