Hello,
After reinstalling my laptop from scratch and downloading 76 Win XP critical
updates, many of my programs won't install. When I double-click on the .exe
file, nothing happens for a while and then I get this error message:
....\setup.exe
incorrect parameter
When instslling from autorun CD, everything, well, just stops.
The next time I click nothing happens at all. (on the screen at least).
When closing Windows, I have to quit manually wowexec. error message:
[system error]
the command to close the selected 16 bit task has expired. The Win 16
subsystem may be unstable. (click ok or cancel)
After some research I found these in the running processes:
wowexec.exe
setup.exe
ntvdm.exe 4724 Ko all used by my user name.
I have tried to replace autoexec.nt and config .nt from the Windows System
32 by the ones you find in Windows repair, as it is suggested on another
website.
No difference.
I have two questions:
1. Where does this come from? My computer is empty except for Windows XP SP2
+ updates and the updates from Lenovo ThinkVantage Tech. I am considering
formatting the disk again, but what if it happens again?
2. How can I repair this? so if it happens again, I don't need to "rescue
and recover" my laptop for the third time.
Lenovo won't support any Windows problem (they actually told me it was far
beyond their competences and I should contact Microsoft), and I just saw
Microsoft won't support any OEM Windows version.
Thank you in advance for your help! I already know I will appreciate it!
