hi Matt, Here is how you can fix the problem
go to start, then right click My computer go to properties then click the
avanced tab then in the performance section click settings click let windows
chose whats best for my computer click apply click ok you may need to restart
the pc if it says you need to restart the pc go ahead when the desktop comes
up it should be back to normal hope this helps you.

Hi,

If you have web items locked on the desktop, you will need to undo them
first as this is one cause of the icon background coloring. Another is found
in the control panel/system applet/advanced tab/performance settings, you
need to enable "use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop".
