Games

Hi. I used to play games in uproar. Since I purchased new Dell comp, with
XP, the games won't download. Any idea why? Sorry this Q is out of place,
but I'm first time user and couldnt figure anything else out. any help
appreciated

Hi Pippa,

Online games are usually developed using Flash, Java, or Virtual Machine.
The most likely solution to a problem with an online game is to install, upgrade,
or reinstall the right one for the game site you're playing on.

A. For Zone.com games: Zone.com are converting most of their games for Flash
to avoid the conflicts between the Sun Java system and Microsoft's Virtual Machine.
Install Flash from: http://sdc.shockwave.com/shockwave/download/frameset.fhtml

B. Most other game sites still use Java. You can install Java and find more help
tips at this webpage: http://java.com/en/download/help/pogo.jsp

C. If the online game still won't load, or gives you errors, try these steps:

1. Click START / Control Panel / Internet Options and click on the Advanced Tab.

2. Below HTTP 1.1 is the Sun Java/ Microsoft VM section: Make sure all Java choices
are unchecked (especially JIT) and then press [OK]. You may be prompted to reboot.

3. If you don't see a Microsoft VM section then download Microsoft Virtual Machine for:
Windows 98 / Me / NT / XP from: http://www.abxair.com/software/msjavx86.exe

4. After you download Java, double-click the file to install it, reboot and then follow
the directions in Steps 1. and 2..to disable JIT compiler and other advanced options.

* Whenever you get a Java Virtual Machine Security Update from Windows Update, you
will have to follow Steps 1. and 2..to disable JIT compiler and other adv. options again.

6. If the problem persists Adjust Your browser settings using this basic example:

7. Try these suggestions for Zone's Java Games:

Regardless, temporarily disable Startup programs one at a time, starting with Firewall,
Antivirus, AdBlockers, & Internet Accelerators using the method in this article:

9. If you have a Coffee Cup icon in your system tray (next to the time) you might have a

I tried this and all of the ones that didn't have a check by it, it wanted to
remove from my system. Do I need to check everything? If I do it asks for
the Windows XP CD to be put in. Then there are these errors that appear i368
could not be located. And how do you possibly click window 3 times when the
first time I click it it goes to the previous page.

Hi mpatt,

You require your Windows CD to install the games from unless you have
an i386 directory save on c:\. And no, you can't complete the final step
of the process (Click [OK] 3 times) if the previous steps aren't completed.

Regarding buzzski's problem with the empty games folder........

I, too, lost the games in my game folder and I follwed your suggestions, and
did retrieve my games.

My question is regarding how did this happen? I was cleaning old "stuff"
and put in my recycle bin -- but did not empty the recycle bin.

I am wondering what I could have deleted to cause the games to go away.

Is there some *.exe or other type of line that I deleted that should not
have been deleted?

The same thing happened with my system tools folder.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi stevemalee,

Since you haven't emptied the Recycle Bin, it would be
interesting if you could open it and see if the games, or
if the shortcuts to the games are what were deleted.

Hi Jimmy,

The shortcuts were not in the Recycle Bin.

I do find it odd that both restore and game folders just were emptied for
some unforeseen reason.
